goa...and the way there

i am in goa, vagator beach, since about 1 week ago. i had problems with my pictures, an thought without pics it might not be that interesting to write...but here we go!

i left delhi with the train to agra, basically to see the taj mahal. it was my first trainride in india, and it was in the beginning a bit difficult to find everything. e.g. the tourist ticket office is in the 1st floor, but many people from agencies, who sell very expensive (and maybe fake tickets) will tell you the office is closed, it was shut down, burnt down ect... but fortunately i knew where it was.
in agra we arrived, and then there is always big hussle from the rickshaw drivers about "who gets the tourist". one guy wanted to drive us for 50 rupees, another one said he would go for 20...and got a punch in his face from the 50 rupees guy! sometimes strange thiongs happen...!

the taj...

...again!
i went there early in the morning, to be there for sunset...but it was a rainy day, instead of sunset it was there for the first rain of the day!! but the advantage was that it was not that crowded. 2 hours later when i left (and the weather was better) many people arrived.
eating street food, samosa
the food you can buy in the streets is sometimes extremly good - and always really cheap!this samosa i bought for 6 rupees, 10 euro cents... its potato and vegetable, fried, with sauce...really good!!

after one day i left agra in the direction west to JAIPUR at 5 in the morning, arrived there at about 9 and spend the day there.

me "and friend"

hawa mahal

in jantar mantar...

...its an astronomical site, an observatorium...

...looks modern, but was built about 1730!
from jaipur i went more to the west, to JAISALMER. its in the desert, an old fort (very beautiful, but a fort again!!). many people come to jaisalmer because of camel safari in the desert. i did so too, it was nice, but i expected "desert" to be something different!
outside the fort...

...and inside!

jaisalmer is really beautiful, but there is just too much hussle. all people want to convince you to book the safari at their agency, and people can get really unfriendly (up to agressive) when they dont see the chance to make business with you!! so it was good to leave to the camel safari soon!!
a last impression of the fort, and off we were to the desert.
"we" was a guy from belgium i met in the train to jaisalmer (12 hours train ride!) and 3 girls from england who had book the same tour... "non touristic", "only locals..." just the same they tell you everywhere!
me on my camel

after a 5 min ride we arrived in the first village...
...but what they tell you is that you ride for 1 hour before coming to the first village! in the village it was strange, because we were there and everybody wanted money, or "school pen" - but our agency said we dont need to bring money. so we decidet not to visit any villages again (one more we visited on the second day though).
one guide had 2 camels, so we had 3 guides and 6 camels

us again

in the evening we slept in sand dunes

me in the sunset

our guides preparing breakfast (chai and toast)

some tourists!!

a cemetery
we were told that the people are burnt, and a stone marks the place where they were burnt. its always close to water (actually where i was for the picture was water, but i had not enough control over the camel to go to the other side and thake a picture with the cemetery and the water!!)
lady milking a goat

in the other village

normally you dont ride bare back

my camel screaming...can be quite scary...
...especially when you know you will be on it for hours!! but we got used to each other! it did not really like to walk in the line so we found our own way!! so in the end it was a good camel!
dunes after sunrise
from jaisalmer i took a night bus for about 14 hours to UDAIPUR (some of you might know it from "james bond: octopussy"). it is really a nice city...with a lot to see...but i was not too much in the sight seeing mood anymore!
temple in udaipur

same

in a very narrow street...!!

details on walls of the temple

again

the outside

jag mandir palace, an island with "just" a palace

jag mandir again

and again...on the right you see the fort

here you see it better
...and even better

in the streets

cows chilling on a bridge!
after udaipur i went to MUMBAI...its a huge city, about 17 million people - and it took me 17 hours to get there. one hour per million people!! in this train i got for the first time really problems with my stomache - a thing i expected as soon as i arrived in india. good timing anyways!!
the gateway of india

one of them jumped on my shirt...

gateway of india, and the world famous taj mahal hotel on the left

mumbai with clouds...or smog???

cameleon

monkeys eating chips, drinking out of bottle...behave like tourists!

slum in the streets
i will do it as the cow and go to the beach!!
since the internet is very slow here it took me almost 3 hours to upload these pictures... i have some more from mumbai, and as well from the beaches in goa...but i will post them not now, cant be in here anymore! i will go to the beach now, but hopefully soon i will be toally up to date with the pictures again!
