n yiri (my house)

dear all!

how is everyone?
i am fine, but sad because of the performance of the black stars (the ghana soccer team). now we have to at least play draw against germany on next saturday plus beat portugal...and thats going to be difficult because germany will be the new world champion - believe me.

i built a house and want to show you some pictures from the building process untill the finished house! there are more pictures to take since it is still not 100% completed, but i want to show you now how far it went. here we go...

it all started with my idea to build. i went to the chief of teh village and told him that i want to build and need land...and showed him the plot. between 2 shea nut trees i imagined my house...

between these 2 trees...i built my house!!!
the elders from my section came out and performed some rituals and blessed my land.

a small symbolic house was built and a fowl was slaughtered

according to my plan the house was measured...

...and the foundation was laid.
i built in a traditional way, without blocks. this means that the soil was watered and every few days the builders came out to put one layer ontop of the exicsint one - untill the house reached roofing level!
different layers in different colours

it grew...

...and grew

today my toilet is where this picture was taken from

the doors were cut...

...and roofing work began.

the house was plastered with cotal - a local plastering material

plastering...

...and the people who did it

the foundation of my toilet was produced

soon it looked like a house!

roofing of my kitchen (a traditional kitchen)

to make the plasering more strong, dawadawa was cooked and the water was splashed onto the plastering

the toilet was built

inside view of my compound

roofing of the toilet...

...was done with thatch

dawadawa made the plastering strong

the doors were fixed

inside painting started

and a prominent footballer came to visit - mr. schick!

i also painted the doors inside the compound - in ghana colours

a satellite dish was fixed...

...and an outside door aswell.
many people dont have a TV here in ghana - but many people like to watch football. therefore i decidet to buy a big TV and put it into my biggest room - to have an entertainment center in the village. many times i myself had to travel 30 minutes to walewale in teh night to watch a match - mot convenient, and many people also do not have bikes to go there. these days people watch the worldcup for free and they come in big numbers. next season for EPL and champions league i will show it for a small fee - to be able to cover my costs for the center.
ghana design - the ghana flag is similar to the rasta flag!

this is todays outside view of my house!

thats where i live for now - you are invited to come over and visit me!!
i planned to return home before the 23rd of june, but today i renewed my insurance in austria and will stay for some more days (weeks?!). in the next blog i will show you the TV and how people are in the house to watch!

hope you are all well and enjoy the world cup!

kind regards, seven
