some more pictures from my first weeks in uganda!
a house in mytiana, the closest city. as you can see its rainy season |
jack fruits...they become huge! |
children in mytiana |
curious child |
this child sat with his friend next to the road. when they saw me, the friend ran away, crying. i sat down, and this child came closer and closer - it was interested, but also a bit afraid. but in the end it was more curious than afraid.
termite hills...and a `normal` road |
at our school compound, children fetching water |
my room is located behind that watertank
gunter, the other volunteer, fixing the light |
market in zigoti, the village where i live |
boarding the `school bus` for the visit in another school |
it really looked funny |
children from the school we visited |
for them it was really interesting that i was there! |
blue uniforms from `my` school, yellow from our hosts |
some pupils followed our visit from outside |
a classroom at the school we visited |
as i mentioned in my first post, the visit to this school showed me how good the conditions in the school, where i live and work, are. you can see that the classroom has a dirt floor, you see the walls...and 2 classes are taught outside, under the trees. it sounds romantic, but especially during rain season its far from romantic!
shake hands (our team has the blue and yellow jerseys) |

a part of our netball team (in proper LASK Linz jerseys!! |

lian, the baby that had had malaria a few days ago |
by the way, it is pretty common that people have malaria here. every few days i go to the hospital with some blood samples of sick children - first we test for malaria, and if it is negative they test typhoid fever (typhus). but so far all samples i brought were malaria positive. with medication it is over in a few days.
one more funny thing i want to tell. yesterday i spoke to a teacher, and he thought that i was german (i got so angry...!). he thought, because i speak german, i am german. when i told him that i am from austria, but in austria people speak german, he looked at me...i could see how he was thinking...then he he asked me (or rather concluded) that austria had been a colony of germany. it never came into my mind, but for him it was the logical solution...because thats what he can see all over africa. it was quite interesting for me to see how different his way of thinking is compared to mine!

many funny shir | ts |
since this project is run by a man from austria, tyrol, there are many shirts from this part of the world around...and thats sometimes really funny!
on the way to church |
they go to church as well |
thats how it looks here |
so last sunday i went to church...the first time in my life (without a wedding, someone baptized or a funeral). i wanted to see how it is, i wanted to join the kids....but more important i heard that this (catholic) church is run by nuns from austria. and i had the deep faith that i could get some proper bred...it was interesting to see...but i did not get bred!!!

so now i spent the whole day, my free day, in the internet, and i was not able to upload all pictures i wanted to upload. but i have to go now, i just wear shorts and a t-shirt...and the mosquito's come out now. and i try not to get malaria...!!
i hope you are all doing well, and hope that you can now understand a bit more about where i live!
take care, bye sevi
